Hip Hop in the Ville #17 Black Diamond

Written by Crystal Walker
They say a diamond is a girls best friend, so what about a Black Diamond. East Nashville's own Black Diamond is cutting through the area. Growing up as a young child who played the violin at the age of 5 and listened to gospel and the blues. Music was already imbedded into her soul. As she got older her music changed with her. From gospel and blues, to rock n roll and pop, to Foxy Brown and Jay Z. She developed a keen essence of different genres of music. Watching videos, such as Madonna was all the drive she needed to pursue a career as an artist. In 2008 Black Diamond landed her first live performance. The feeling of nervousness and shyness is way different now. Black Diamond uses everything she has learned, or even remembered hearing as a child and puts it into her music. Even from picking out a track she tries to keep that same mellow, soothing blues feeling she grew up on. Black Diamond won Female Boss at the 3rd Annual HHV Awards, has had collaborations with Virgo, a RnB singer, and Axtion. Her song with Virgo is entitled,"Copy Kitty Kat". Her song with Axtion is entitled," Hottest Chick Alive" which is currently being played on 101.1 The Beat. Black Diamond mixtape should be released sometime this summer, she hasn't quite figured out the title yet. With her kids being her biggest supporters, she can teach and show them that dreams can come true.
